"In his first year back in office, Trump launched at least 658 air and drone strikes against Iraq, Somalia, Iran, Yemen, Syria, Nigeria, and Venezuela."

The peace president.

Around a year ago, just after the presidential inauguration (long before we knew how bad it would be), I wrote about the pressure to conform, about “going along to get along.” And I wrote about the people who don't do that. Who stand up for what is right.

No finishers (again!) in the Barkley Marathons. But here's my interview from a few years ago with Japanese ultramarathon runner Tomokazu Ihara, who famously said to me, "It's gonna be a piece of cake!" 🍰 Spoiler alert: It wasn't!

Eileen Gu says her Olympic schedule is ‘really unfair’ and ‘doesn’t make sense’ www.nytimes.com/athletic/704...

Queen of Entitlement. She and her team knew the schedule months, if not years ago. They must have known halfpipe practice would be an issue if she made the big air final. This is on her.

There seems to be some sort of IOC funding for athletes from traditionally non-skiing countries, and I think they identify the giant slalom as the easiest entry point into Alpine skiing ...

Fantastic to watch so many athletes from not traditionally skiing nations compete in the men's giant slalom at this Olympics. Haiti, Benin, Singapore, Hong Kong, Madagascar, Trinidad & Tobago, Cyprus, Iran and so many others!

You know you're having a bad day at the Olympics when, after your indifferent first giant slalom run, you (unsportingly) try to break your ski pole over your knee, but can't ... talking about U.S. skier Ryder Sarchett

Turning on the men's giant slalom to see a Brazilian in first place, wut??? Google told me he used to be a Norwegian. Oh, okay, that makes more sense.

A day ago the EPA officially rejected the science on global warming.

Beyond "oh, that happened" I won't read about it. I won't silently evaluate the coverage of it, as I often do. This item is going into the "too stupid, too important to be that stupid, and too painful" bucket. Do you ever do that?

Super-rare instance of a New York Times story using the words “was not true” to describe administration actions. How did it sneak past the editors who would have wanted “a version that may have been contradicted by evidence”?

It seems the media can’t frame a story positively anymore. Or even even-handedly. Chloe Kim is not a loser. She won silver, injured, and is one of the greats of the sport. Not a loser. 🙄

Premier League media coverage seems to consist entirely of pundits asserting that a lead of XX points means (in December, LOL) that the title race is over. The inverse story is emerging now: Arsenal has an inadequate points lead that can't possibly hold up.

U.S. skier Mikaela Shiffrin famously went 0 for 6 at the last Winter Olympics, and is 0 for 1 in Cortina. The Athletic has a good story about nerves in the start hut in the men's Super-G:
