For anagram lovers, that's almost surprising

Still waiting on this one.

Fun fact. I’m in California too. San Diego.

That might be going a bit too far, but think of the tourists such an event would attract. And the Pay-per-View sales. And your ad revenue. You could be on to something! Are you from the UK? Where do you live now?

I think, given their mission statement, that some bias is to be expected, but I've not seen any credible counter-arguments to their numbers which I think is likely down to the fact that they were well aware they would be scrutinised and made sure they could support their figures.

Thank you for a civil debate on the topic.

Check out the work that Republic do. Their research is detailed and not just speculation.

The half a billion pound royals. Find out what the royals really cost us, and why they aren't telling you the truth about who owns the Duchies.

A one-off event is hardly relevant anyway, but your original point was that "They bring in hundreds of millions via tourism" and I haven't seen any evidence to support that claim.
November 23, 2024 at 12:39 AM
That is a big number, but even assuming it's close to accurate, divide it by half a billion a year and we'd need the monarch to die every three and a half years for them to be profitable. One of the reasons the Queen was so popular was the record length of her reign.

Maybe some money, but from a once-in-a-lifetime event, it's not really a strong argument for keeping a RF that costs the UK public more than £500 million a year.
November 23, 2024 at 12:20 AM
Sometimes my guesses are quite perceptive
November 23, 2024 at 12:11 AM
Yes, on that topic perhaps you have the amounts that the RF spend and how much we spend supporting them and their buildings?
November 23, 2024 at 12:04 AM
I’m guessing they weren’t peer reviewed.
November 23, 2024 at 12:02 AM
That's what I call a citation! Thank you
November 22, 2024 at 11:59 PM
2,000! For a once in a 'lifetime' event! Now do the Olympics, Euros, Champions League Finals... Your argument is incredibly weak even if that 2k number is correct.

Citation needed

But there is no evidence to support this. Hever Castle gets a lot of visitors but Henry VIII hasn't been seen there for a while. And Chartwell gets a few too, with no royal connection at all.
