U of Essex was, to me, a microcosm of what makes the UK great. And the xenophobia and desire for irrelevance that had plagued that isle since Brexit is now harming its academic gems, and that’s a damn shame.

Which doesn’t make a ton of sense when your country’s greatest strength is using the arms of what was once its empire to bring people in, a soft power built on the grave of colonialism for something integrative.

Fortunately my supervisor was cool with that.

That’s a guy coming from the States. I can’t imagine how insurmountable the barriers to entry seem for people across the world. The UK has priced out people it doesn’t like.

When I applied for a student visa for my masters back in 2011, I think the total costs came to a few hundred dollars.

When I considered returning to the country to finish my PhD a few years ago, the costs exceeded a few thousand. I refused to do it on principle and finished my thesis remotely.

Which of course makes the Dems 'remember who did this' shtick even dumber and more useless than it already was.

What a joke this country is.

My healthcare broker is telling me to hang tight. That the Republicans might still propose something to restore the credits to avoid the political fallout.

It would be very Trump like to sweep in last minute with 'Trump bucks' to pretend he saved the day.

Like folks, I do not need my CarFax 2025 unwrapped.

Spotify, sure fine. Something like Strava, yes it's nice to have. I don't need my Venmo year-in-review.

Can't we all just be willing to forget?

Sometimes though, the franchise is fucked and you should not, under any circumstances, want to be a 'guy' of any order involved with it. Hope this helps you all out there.

You and me both--unless you happened to be in the same room. Then it was a proper level of hipness.

Easier said than done but don’t beat yourself up about that. Not one person hasn’t had to process a loss. Might be braver and more healthy to articulate on here than try to stiff upper lip it.

No appropriate reaction, just your own process to honor

What is the unconscious if not a graveyard? But what you are describing is also a death, and in terms if an annihilating shock and the end of one assemblage I don’t think there’s a difference. The end one body, formation of new ones….

The guilt thing reminds me a lot of Spinoza too--negative thoughts as 'autoimmune diseases'. Of course rationally knowing this stuff is one thing. Living it is always an entirely different order!

Forgetfulness as a virtue. That can be a tough one!

El Barto again, if you need someone to vent to, please fire away.
