Gerasimov was given strict orders to take Pokrovsk by mid-November; much of it is still in Ukrainian hands.
Gerasimov embarrassed Putin by giving him false information about the situation in Kupyansk which Putin then repeated.
Is Gerasimov about to be sacked? I hope not, he is a Ukrainian asset.

Russia has only lost a total of 18 choppers to Ukrainian action in the past twelve months. Given the limited rate of loss, maintaining the Mi-8 fleet at current levels would not seem to be much of an achievement.

That’s treachery for the future. As things stand he will not even agree to a peace plan that doesn’t amount to Ukrainian capitulation. Even the notorious 28 point plan would, according to Putin, only have been a basis for discussion.

Both, and he has misplaced his moral compass.

Want the war to end; tired of talk; want action - here’s a thought, dramatically increase the Administration’s primary and secondary sanctions on Russia as requested by the Senate. You might even gain Putin’s respect, ‘cause you sure don’t have it now.

US moral authority is not under threat. It ceased to exist months ago.

It probably is as basic as that. He didn’t know where the Congo is, or ‘what’ it is; confused South Africa with South America; didn’t know that India and China share a common border; didn’t know the difference between Baltic and Balkan; thought Belgium was a city; and that Paris was in Germany.

You’re looking for consistency? From Trump?
Though we shouldn’t exclude the possibly that he hasn’t actually read the Security Strategy, or he has read it but has forgotten its content.

In January and early February 2022, Russia, we were assured, was not planning to wage war against Ukraine and had no such intentions.
Putin lies. Lavrov lies. Peskov lies. The whole rotten cabal can’t be trusted for a moment.

It is reassuring that the EU has a mechanism for nullifying the veto reflex of Orban and Fico when it comes to legislation affecting Russia.

The borders referred to were of the Soviet Union. Admittedly Crimea was incorporated into the UkrainIan republic during the post-war Soviet era, but the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine were recognised by the Russian Federation in the nineties. Someone should buy her a history book.

It is a document of which Americans should be ashamed. It asserts that commercial interests will take priority, and that what other countries choose to do and how they happen to be governed is of no interest to the US, with the notable exception of Europe. Largely aligned with Russia’s vision indeed

Orban will not be able to veto this. It will take longer but there is a work-around.

The Russian MoD claimed to have surrounded Pokrovsk on 10 October, yet here we are nearly two months later with a Ukrainian flag still present at the main railway station. Same with Kupyansk - surrounded 29 October, 5,000 Ukrainians trapped - today fighting ongoing in the town no Ukrainian prisoners

Orban’s pitch to the Hungarian electorate is predictable. It remains to be seen whether, despite Orban’s control of the media, Hungarians are prepared to tolerate another term of his pariah administration.

He has the unerring ability to embarrass the USA at every opportunity.
December 7, 2025 at 12:35 AM
To be fair to Trump, he made no secret of his contempt for the Constitution during the election campaign, and with the eager support of GOP senators he stacked the Supreme Court in plain sight during his first term.
