The US technology company said on Tuesday, just before it reported lower-than-forecast earnings, that it had updated its ethical guidelines around AI, & they no longer referred to not pursuing technologies that could “cause or are likely to cause overall harm”.

What happened to “do no evil” Google?

This move is not a step toward empowering the public or expanding free speech. It’s a transparent attempt to offload the responsibility of managing misinformation onto the very users already overwhelmed by it.

Let’s be clear: free speech does not equate to enabling hate speech without accountability or consequence. Allowing harmful rhetoric to proliferate unchecked erodes trust, fuels division, and undermines the very fabric of informed public discourse.
