But more relevant to the original point is this one. While "gas stations" are losing customers who buy fuel, they're not actually losing customers in total, because they now sell electricity and continue to sell convenience foods, etc.

This is what the data for Norway show. EVs and hybrids are driven about the same amount per car, while the distances driven in ICE cars (again, per car) are steadily declining.

I've since added a few more figures to my "international transport" webpage:

You can find some charts and data on international transport on my webpage here:

Plenty of figures to choose from. Here are the first six of the 74 on the webpage. They're numbered according to which slide they appear on in the GCB's Powerpoint slidedeck (link on this page), which has a little more interpretation on each one.

The Nepalese EV transition.
In simple terms, brown on this graph is India's share and blue is China's share.
The trigger? India effectively halted all imports of petroleum into Nepal in 2015, an "undeclared blockade", which was "masked as constitutional concern".

EU with 19% BEV in October, 16% this year.

The question is why. The IEA doesn't know, but provides four hypotheses:

2026 will be a bumper year for new solar installations in India.
But...

This is what Ember's data have for "World", which is a very large share of global electricity generation. Coal is up all of 5 TWh so far in 2025, gas up 19 TWh. Compared to solar up 535 TWh and wind 141 TWh.

The USA is up a lot in 2025, as a counter-example. This is because the domestic price of natural gas has increased sharply from the additional LNG export capacity brought online.
November 21, 2025 at 2:48 PM
The contrast with China is also interesting. Coal generation is also down so far this year in China, but electricity demand is still growing strongly.

Hmm. I had read that LNG trucks were far more popular in the NE of China, close to much cheaper domestic gas supplies. Given that, I don't see an obvious direct link to imported LNG unless it's a displacement effect.

Here's how that transition looks.

They're doing quite well in China, anyway.

I've added a dropdown with a bunch of explanatory notes that might be helpful and/or interesting for folks checking out the data on my "car sales" page.

At 83% likelihood, the remaining carbon budgets shrink even more, and the 1.5° budget is all but gone already. Note that the 1.5°/83% budget from Forster et al. 2025 is now negative, but we average with the AR6 budget.
November 16, 2025 at 9:00 AM
At a 67% likelihood, the budgets shrink considerably, and the 1.5° budget is used up in <3 years of current emissions.
November 16, 2025 at 9:00 AM
Which probability is used varies by context/forum. GCP traditionally uses 50%, and it clearly should have been on the chart, which I've now remedied. I'll work up 67% and 83% versions, but note we use the mean of AR6 and Forster2025, both adjusted for emissions since.

Big jump in Indonesia's sales of battery-electric cars in October with the arrival of the Atto 1, which made up 9400 of total 74000 cars sold in October.

Toutes les régions devraient connaître une augmentation de leurs émissions, à l'exception du Japon, dont les émissions diminuent en partie grâce à la poursuite des redémarrages de ses réacteurs nucléaires et à une forte croissance de l'énergie solaire.
