People still want to walk around in the suburbs, exhibit #39562.

People are blazing a trail across the unplowed MUP, and you can see the “sidewalk” I snowblowed because our street doesn’t have one, it will be specially cleared least until the big plows come.

I explicitly emailed asking if the crew can do it. Seems very easy, just don’t lift the blade!

Very broad, could include things like parades or street festivals or pedestrian streets if cities start “abusing” those tools to slow down or limit the movement of cars. But right now anything that doesn’t include a bike lane is A-OK.

Leaves it open to literally anything they want to prescribe that temporarily or permanently shifts the use of a driving lane to another use.

This was the first year I did a battery replacement on a 3 year old phone (free under extended warranty) and I still feel great about it. I used to love tech and still find it interesting but the consumption economy feels really gross now.

I mean yeah, absolutely I would use that on the regular!

I worried this detailed copy “Regina copy” with all the notes would be something I’d have to redo for Ottawa, but nope, I think it all fits letter for letter. Hope you don’t mind if I borrow this and use it extensively. Maybe put it up on some billboards at city hall?

This is definitely how we should pitch any project that replaces car lanes. Then just don’t flood them because this idea is ridiculous.

Please actively share this with us in Ward 2! We need the lanes!

Thank you for writing about this!

Also it’s a hilarious troll to the province. Run a bus on it (that would be useful) but do it there just to have the bus lane.

Except most of what the city wants to do is tie these projects into (sometimes desperately) needed updates. So if we hit pause on the bike lane parts we just won’t get to do it until renewal comes back all over again.

It is. This was discussed for a long time at committee yesterday. There’s a whole lot of silly in these rules. Any plans that don’t put in bike lanes are perfectly fine.

We’re going to be left with a bunch of weird infrastructure as a legacy of this bill as cities try to build better around it.
