Grace often comes from the places we least expect. Grace reveals our privileges and prejudices at the same time that Grace rescues us from the same privileges and prejudices.

Yes, we are to be rescued from our privileges. Grace does this work if we allow it.

Gratitude is not always an extreme emotion. It is often a low grade kind of joy that comes with bearing witness to grace. “Look,” our souls say. “This was not our doing. Friends. Loved ones. God. They did this. All you had to do was say ‘yes’ and step into it.” Grace.

“spring song”
by Lucille Clifton

the green of Jesus
is breaking the ground
and the sweet
smell of delicious Jesus
is opening the house and
the dance of Jesus music
has hold of the air and
the world is turning
in the body of Jesus and
the future is possible

Joy is the gift of love. Grief is the price of love. Anger protects that which is loved. And when we think we have reached our limit, wonder is the act that returns us to love.

We think of eternal life, if we think of it at all, as what happens when life ends. We would do better to think of it as what happens when life begins.
