How can Google even consider replacing search with AI search when it can't even accurately report simple facts?

just adding Queer.Archive.Work, our own tiny volunteer-run collective, to the very long list of arts orgs de-funded by the NEA—would have been our first NEA grant, our largest ever, & would have created a new job here in RI. I love who we are & we’ll continue to support each other no matter what <3

Well, democracy is on its deathbed, and the free press is on the endangered list, so why should we be surprised that the WHCA is unwilling to stand up for the integrity of political journalism's biggest event?

Recently I happened to catch an episode of NewRadio - such a brilliant show! A more innocent time when we didn't yet know that Phil Hartman would be murdered by his wife, Joe Rogan would become a hugely influential podcaster promoting misinformation, and Andy Dick was an unhinged addict & sex pest.

This evening we saw a hilarious movie called "Grand Theft Hamlet" about 2 actors during lockdown who decide to stage a performance of Hamlet in GTA. The entire thing is filmed in the game.

Two weeks into 2025 and I'm ready to pass on this one. Let's move on to 2026 and see if that's any better.

Jason took me to see a one-man show called "The 7th Voyage of Egon Tichy," based on a short story by Stanislaw Lem. It was created as "quarantine theater," originally performed via streaming (now live). It combines performance and video to create a funny, weird, tight little show. It was fantastic.

Went to MoMA today to see Christian Marclay's The Clock. I saw 80 minutes of it in 2013 (from 1:50-3:10am). Today we watched it for over 4 hours - from about 2:40pm to 7pm, when MoMA closed. If you love film and are in NY before Feb 17, I highly recommend it: www.moma.org/calendar/exh...

Netflix recommended a show called "Culinary Class Wars" which sounds bonkers: 100 chefs compete, 80 "unknowns" in team Black Spoon pitted against 20 celebrated/celebrity White Spoon chefs in a "Class War". But, 2 eps in, it's way more congenial than described and also more emotional than I expected!

Last week I saw two musicals. "Maybe Happy Ending" was nicely put together, but with so many conflicting feelings about AI brewing right now it was hard to avoid seeing it through that lens. Maybe that's somewhat intentional, but it feels like it hits differently than it was meant to.

Going back to my very first skeet, I really should have tagged @robmanuelyeah.bsky.social and @fesshole.bsky.social !!
Picked this up on a recent trip to Edinburgh, and it turns out it's the absolute best thing to read when you're having a stressful week and can't fall asleep and need to do something with your brain that's not on a screen.

I love everything about this story: Tony Hawk posted a ‘70s era image of a Black girl skateboarding in the rain. Jeremy Markovich tracked her down.

Tony Hawk wanted to track down a mysterious skateboarder from 1979. We found her.
A photographer snapped a shot of Shaunda Shane skating down her street in Fayetteville when she was 10. How did the world's most famous skateboarder see that picture 45 years later?

A significant wave of people coming over here right now, so it seems like a good time to do another scan for people I followed in the other place. I'm using Sky Follower Bridge.

Very frustrated today with technology that won't let you quit. Trying to delete an unused Google account and I get to a step where G says it's going to text me a code to verify my identity and the text never arrives (but just a few minutes ago they successfully sent me a text to log in).

I was watching Saturday Night Live and a commercial came on for a Hess Police Truck and Cruiser, and I was certain it was a parody ad. The cruiser looks like an armored vehicle. And the voiceover cheerfully announced that it comes with a battering ram! It's NOT a parody. youtu.be/8qMnB3sE2jw?...

"This is an accessible station. The alligator is at the center of the platform."

Sometimes NYC subway announcements are a little weird.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema sent me an email saying "we miss you, it's been a while" and I wonder why they're offering me a free popcorn instead of, you know, changing up what movies they're playing. They're still showing the same movies I saw over a month ago!

Just finished watching the show Shrinking with my sister. It's a very entertaining show about a small group of people, several of whom are professional therapists. They all have terrible boundaries and their lives are way too intertwined. We laughed a lot.

Sounds like not even Threads is good at threading.
Tried Threads for 48 hours and my verdict is, it's definitely what it was intended to be: text posts for Instagram. It’s probably good if you’re used to the IG algorithm, but for people from Twitter/Mastodon/BlueSky looking for the classic social media feel, it’s basically unusable. 1/3
