Most people don’t realize that one of the hallmarks of a parliamentary system (and one of the things that makes it far superior to our stupid presidential system) is that government shutdowns are essentially impossible. If the ruling party can’t pass a supply bill, it triggers an election.

People talk about the First Amendment like it’s some kind of magic talisman. We also have an Equal Protection Clause and two Due Process Clauses. They are all just ink on paper if you don’t leaders and citizens that internalize those values. The Weimar Constitution made promises too.

Otherwise, when there’s a national manhunt and every Tyler Robinson gets targeted by a rightwing mob, your kid is safe.
