That was good. Thank you for sharing. I was going to say it’s amusing that he’s back with Kinley. Alas, it looks like Kinley is now a free agent.

Oh, for sure. And it’s on me for not being more clear in my original message.

To be clear, I don’t agree with his strategy. You need to be irrational, sometimes often, to win titles.

Yup. And this one:

Oh, I don’t think that kind of rigidity is a good thing. You have to retain some flexibility.

And those who did work out are now starting to eat into their available budget through arb. Too many teams wait until everything is just right to make the move. I think that’s usually a mistake and that you have to be a little out in front to maximize everything.

Yes, but that’s true of most every executive. (He also has a great quote about surplus value in here: www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/08/frie...)

I believe his in-zone did tick up, which is interesting given some of the tweaks. But yes, he seems like a strong bet to fall in that two-to-three-win range. Just comes down to how you value Rodriguez, the opportunity cost, and so on. (I think it's a no-brainer for the Angels despite the risk.)

Yeah, and this would seem to be the opportune time to do that. I do understand, at least theoretically, why they’d largely bail on long pitching investments. Even so, rigidity is rarely a plus in this game.

It’s an interesting trade both ways. I do think I like Ward more than I should—he has a good combination of contact, plate discipline, and strength, with some point of contact adjustments last year that helped. Despite his age, I find myself wondering if he can up his numbers a little.

The Braves, again for better or worse, have been more willing to use premium draft capital on arms, too—even prep arms.

One of those things where I can see the logic on his end in avoiding the risk—especially when he had limited financial resources to work with—but there’s a reason everyone else takes the plunge despite knowing the downside.

Would need to look at each case myself, but it's an interesting question. Gut was that the people most likely to accept are those coming off an uncharacteristically good year.
