Me at the end of ep 4: “I know that genre conventions require that I feel terrible right now but I FEEL TERRIBLE RIGHT NOW.”

I love his version of I Heard The Bells! (A carol that totally kicks ass, btw)

I’d like to say “I got as far as ‘interned for Christine Hoff Sommers’ and stopped reading,” but of course I was masochistic enough to read the whole thing.

Once Acrobat smugly informed me that it had pre-summarized the PDF I opened, even though I didn’t ask, as a treat.

It was a set of test results from the second most-used English-language IQ test.

The bit of summary I could see got the name of the test wrong.

A young adult once told me that she listened to short snippets of certain songs for hours because the progression of notes was so satisfying. There was a matching way she needed to rock her body.

“Don’t be silly, Dr. Otter. I’m not autistic, my brother is.”

I’m a psychologist who specializes in assessment and I 100% agree.

“Likes listening to music,” sure, lots of people do. “Listens to the same song on repeat for hours,” that’s a Criterion B symptom.

My autistic young adult has a Spotify playlist of variations on the ballad Tam Lin. It’s two hours long.

Shoutout to the German exchange student at my high school who came back after his first American Thanksgiving and said “in Germany, we feed pumpkins to the pigs.”

(My 14yo was also offered her first shot of vodka but wisely declined. Even though “it is traditional with smoked fish.”)

One of my family’s happiest travel memories is the time we did a “tasting tour” of the Central Market in Riga. We ate EVERYTHING. Bread soup, cheese with nettles, smoked pig’s ear, “herring in a fur coat,” and my 18yo’s first shot of vodka.
