Wayfaring stranger seeking friendly fires and fantastic tales. Writing practice account prone to rushes of words followed by periods of silence.
Action creates motivation, and is a more reliable generator of progress than waiting for motivation to strike first.

Did some writing today.

Been playing Heroes of Might and Magic III all week. First M&M game for me. Steep learning curve, but I'm finally getting the hang of it and am really enjoying the world in general. A game from 1999 can still be engrossing and beautiful.

Cosmic Princess Kaguya is what the best movies are about: the brevity of life and the need to embrace it while we have it.

So, between Delicious in Dungeon, Frieren, and Spy Family, I think I might be back on the ‘ne (what us old folks call anime).

There is but one life in this vessel. May I use it well.

There are a surprising number of people for whom tonight's Thursday Night Impact on AMC is their first exposure to TNA. If you're one of them: no, this one isn't an outlier. This is how TNA is. Now think about all those who told you that TNA is the real number two wrestling promotion in the US/world

TNA introducing C and D-tier celebrities on camera with a bunch of empty seats behind them, and later having Santino say “Thursday night on AMC. It doesn’t get any bigger than this” to mild applause are two of the most TNA things you can imagine.

I wish to be better
Better organized
Better focused
Better prioritized
Better disciplined
Better at being a friend
Better at being present

Yeah

Shall I sleep or summon demons
Like I've conjured them before?
Shall I light forbidden fires
And call devils to these shores?

The nights sweep over me
As hushing hands
and weathered whispers
do not err in warning
of darknesses to come

There are multiple fantasy music mixes that I've gone back to over the years. This is one of them. Oddly, these are more affecting now than they ever were in the past. These days, YouTube can feel like a mire of AI slop, so I try to seek out and connect with human-made art.

I'm going to write a short story that is rooted in Slavic mythology. So I have said. So it must be done.

Remember when you would read novels that had pictures in them and a picture would feel like a reward when you got to it? Just me?

Much of the stuff I write is overwrought. Needs two or three edits before it comes down to earth. Most of the stuff I post here is pretty raw unless noted otherwise.

Winter Candle (v.3)

The winter chill can darken hearts
And bring all spirits low
With wilting warmth, I light a wick
And watch the fire grow

O, Flame of Life
Holder of Hope
In you, I must abide

I pray your glow
Shall keep me whole
And spirits satisfy

Time passes too quickly. That’s just the eternal existential anxiety, I suppose.

I hope if I absorb enough noble words, and write enough poor stories of my own, I will one day be able to write something worth reading.

You can’t get better at writing without reading and writing.

Winter Candle (version 2)
Written by Rivenblade

The winter chill can darken hearts
And bring all spirits low
Knowing this, I light a wick
And watch the small flame grow

O, Flame of Life
Holder of Hope
In you, I must abide

I pray your glow
Shall keep me whole
And spirits satisfy

We once dwelled in honour and pride ‘ere comfort and age bore us near ruin.

Where is the knight?

Where is the sower?

Where are the hearts that once were aflame?

We have eaten our feasts from elder-day tables, yet given no heed to the rot ‘neath the cloth!

We only get one life on this planet. This year has been a sobering lesson in how quickly that life can end regardless of health or age. Several people I knew or was at least familiar with who lost their lives. Two in their forties. Both with children. I’ve tried to take them as signs and reminders.

Apparently, it’s International Men’s Day. While it would be easy to respond with a cynical smirk to that fact, it would only add to the hurt, and push back the acceptance and equality we all crave as people.

Cheers to the men who show up, love, care, contribute, and want to make things better.

Ridan etched designs of doom upon his mind, coils of vengeful thoughts ready to strike at the image of his treacherous brother. He walked through the camp a man possessed, whether by righteous anger or poisoned vision, his party could not say.
