Just finished reading your essay and it’s making me want to go reread all her books. ❤️

I loved her books when I was a teen, gonna go read that now.

Same. Or KEXP if I don’t want to pick something.

Spotify never really did it for me though so not using it is pretty easy.

That’s a thought I’ve been having off and on for about a week now: I’ll be shocked when there are consequences and not a moment sooner.

That image seems designed to make me not want to be there with those people.

It's cleaner, it's less painful, to believe in a solo ogre that ruins live & hurts people. Not how it works, usually. And the enablers & encouragers of longtime ogres often believe they're good people, they're not doing the worst stuff, they're not doing anything BAD bad. Those people are everywhere

My cousin is a mathematician and I don't even understand her Wikipedia entry. She's also a genuinely kind person who is interested in all sorts of things beyond her specialty.

She also just won a MacArthur so I think that's working out well for her.

My husband and I have responsibility for about 90 acres of timberland, some of which was harvested within the last decade, but much of which is heavily overgrown (sometimes by opportunistic understory shrubs and brambles).

Most of our trails that aren't old logging roads were made by elk.

Having trailed moose as part of a wildlife tracking class, can confirm.

We also found where it had doubled back and had a commanding view of where our group had stopped to eat lunch.

Knowing that something that size is in the woods with you and you neither saw nor heard it is...an experience.

Their pharmacy is great except for not being open on weekends. After Rite Aid imploded they ended up being one of the most convenient options for us.

I watched Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein movie, which I am positive was time better spent than whatever these assholes were doing.

Dreher seems to think that we're supposed to be impressed.

Last time I was in a Target—several years ago now—there wasn’t an employee to be seen anywhere, never mind within ten feet.

I used to shop there regularly but all the locked cabinets, even before they rolled back their DEI initiatives, did it for me.
