It’s been 20 years of moments like this but I remain hopeful.

If you’re a woman that wants to be technical as hell I want to meet you.

You can do it. We need you.

I looked around and counted 3 women in the room, including myself.

Bummed was an understatement.

When I started down this path in 2004 studying Computer Engineering I was 1 of 3 women in my program.

It feels like nothing has changed.

I’m still 1 of 3.

3. What does success look like for the person you hire in 30/60/90 days after starting?

4. What are you most optimistic about?

5. What are the biggest challenges a new hire will face?

3. Interview the company back

You have to ask questions.

If you don’t ask well thought through questions the hiring manager will notice.

Try:

1. What has been the most challenging experience you’ve had while working here?

2. How would your direct reports describe your leadership style?

2. Make yourself standout by doing research

Knowing your own story isn’t enough.

Doing research takes you from wanting a job to wanting ✨this job ✨. Hiring managers notice.

Try researching:
- Company history
- Company financials
- Investors in company
- News
- Competitors
- Analyst opinions

1. Practice your story like an actor

Walking into an interview and having never practiced your personal pitch is a recipe for disaster.

Instead try:
- Creating a person elevator pitch
- Outlining your job experience using the STAR method
- Get an accountability buddy & practice your interviewing
