On Post-Catastrophe Film
'A fascinating account of what it means that the world may be ending in a smoky and damp whimper, not a Hollywood bang. Deft and provocative criticism that helps us see our moment!'

The paperback edition of Music and Sound in the Films of Dennis Hopper landed a few months ago. Reissue of Screen Captures comes out in the Spring, and Post-Catastrophe Film arrives in the summer.

This is excellent. I don't mean to jump on your concept, but my next book deals in similar themes, though on a more planetary scale.

This press conference was insane. Trump rolled over for a tickle on his belly (Metaphorically speaking) and giggled. Zohran Mamdani, the Trump whisperer. Who knew? What a win.

This time of the year always fills me with deep melancholy, and a yearning for the warmer months. But sometimes you run into a little beauty. Sun and a brief rain shower. This feels like a end credit.

My essay Dennis Hopper's Cinema of Loneliness takes a look at Hopper's portrayal of the damaged male psyche through the lens of film critic Robert Kolker's 1980 book A Cinema of Loneliness. Over at @borrowingtape.bsky.social

My 14 year old son accompanied me to the screening of Easy Rider this afternoon. His initial response: "I liked it, but I'm never doing drugs."
Double parenting win.
