My first essay collection is brand new, & I’m proud of how it’s been received thus far! I’d love for it to reach more readers interested in climate, relationship to place, & interrogating common environmental narratives.

A few pics from my first couple book-talking/selling events this last week, in Fairbanks, with @pataky.bsky.social and @coyotetrail.bsky.social & here at Denali. It’s been a lovely transition into this stage of my book’s life!

2nd night: back in the expected half of the sky.

p.s. - I had to unexpectedly replace my phone over the summer, & everything about the new iPhone is worse than the old iPhone, except for aurora pictures, I’ve learned in the last 28 hours. So at least there’s that.

It’s always a good sign when you and your publisher take book pics in the wood pile, independently and with zero coordination 😅

If you’ve already purchased my book, THANK YOU, & check out the other porphyry titles! Discount code below!

Neighbor & I walked the dogs to the river. I dropped my phone in the snow chasing the dog to get him to drop a moose bone & was halfway home before I realized & drove back to find it. All my notifications are abt medical crises or the senate except for one abt bunco.

I’m not in the mood for bunco

gate is closed at kennels, road is walkable. We just walked a bit on the road after our po run today. There’s barely any snow, not skiable yet.

& I’m sure you know this but to others: there’s no trash or restrooms etc, be extra safe & pack out trash & be kind- anyone working isn’t getting paid —

Dawnell isn’t the first early reader to use the word “ambivalence” to describe the book’s tone, but did drill down on what the ambivalence is towards: the sense of misdirected attention, perhaps. I’m still contemplating it, though I don’t disagree.
