Last Updated: Thursday, 4 November, 2004, Did Guardian turn Ohio to Bush? Was it "the Guardian wot swung it" is the somewhat tongue-in-cheek question for analysts following George Bush's presidential election victory. Specifically, was the "Guardian Effect" to blame for the pro-Bush swing in one Ohio county? In the run up to the US presidential election, the left-wing paper identified the area as a vote-swingers hotspot. Under Operation Clark County, it began a letter-writing campaign which aimed to give people outside the US a say in the election.

To give you an idea of its 'troubled' release history, here's a comment by Tag Gallagher from a private forum: "I know of two prints, both 16mm, of the Bigger Sky. One is mine, issued on Kinowelt and Montparnasse dvds. The other is (I believe) Scorsese's, shown on TCM and, I imagine but have not checked, Criterion. Mine has substantially better picture quality, but some surface wear. MoMA twice borrowed it, preferring it to "Scorsese's." Mine has a shot missing in "Scorsese's," but is lacking a few minutes in the cave. For the Montparnasse and Kinowelt dvds, we replaced the cave footage with a tape (Beta Il) of a TCM cablecast. Also a replaced end title from that cablecast. A few years ago, privatey, I replaced the cave footage, the end title and the start of the opening title from a dvd recording of the TCM cablecast. Also, I fixed a couple dozen frames with cue marks etc."
