Its natural to want to understand how something works and build your own but 99% of the time its not viable business. Enjoy the creative process without the pressure of monetisation.

Also having a youtube channel before publishing has given them the advantage of a pre existing audience.

I know a few TTRPG creators that have monthly patreon magazines that are digital only then the annual is print on demand. Less risk but different market to comics.

That sounds rough. Would you consider the publicity around the project and what you have learned about printing and shipping a product a positive from the venture?
