I’ll take that. I screw the algorithm by playing instrumental stuff as background working music. They don’t know

"The first and last words of Street Sailing are the word ‘awake’, and this is definitely how these poems seem, and how they feel to me; to transmit such a sense to a reader is no mean feat – in fact, it is an act of high magic. Let these poems work their wonder upon you!"

The sound of the timer alert on my phone has been bugging me for a while - it reminded me of a song intro I couldn’t place - finally worked it out - Mister Malcontent from Lloyd Cole & The Commotions’ Mainstream. And relax…

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a man in possession of reading glasses must be want of remembering to take the fucking things with him when on the way to a poetry reading.

First of two gigs I’m seeing in November at the beloved Roundhouse - Perfume Genius - who as well as their own songs did a pretty good cover of Fade Into You. Next up, English Teacher.

Ok, it was the cover that made me buy it. But I’ll judge it by reading it. It’s dedicated to Mark Fisher with an MR James quote, so that’s a good start.

www.theguardian.com/politics/liv... Of all the things a government minister could have said about this. And that’s the take. So piss-weak and craven. Free speech is nationalist thugs being allowed to march. It’s not the “Labour” government encouraging them. FFS.

Boiler plate BBC justification for Farage & Reform’s ubiquity on their outlets. Can’t agree the fact he’s popular merits regular free pass. Op Polls - often driven by media coverage - used to explain why this 4 MP business receives more airtime than Greens with same or Lib Dems with dozens more.

When you get a ‘no’ from a major poetry journal, which comes with technical feedback on poems they liked in your submission and why, plus a hope you’ll try again, that feels far less like a rejection and more of an encouraging push to keep going.
