The phrase “The Battle of Blythe Road” is a chapter in Ellic Howe’s monumental “The Magicians of the Golden Dawn” (1972), later utilized by Darcy Küntz as the title of his 2000 collection of primary source materials related to this “Golden Dawn Affair.”

😄 While I was holding the “Three Books,” Justin talked about how Agrippa personally oversaw the printing and was probably there when this particular copy (or any copy, for that matter) was printed. Amazing to consider!

Gloves leave your hands less sensitive to touch, increasing the odds of accidentally causing damage. Washing and drying your hands is enough to preserve a rare book.

Also, books this old are printed on rag paper, which holds up amazing well and isn’t fragile at all.

Gloves actually aren’t recommended for handling rare books. Just make sure your hands are clean and dry.

I don’t know. A lot of rare books have been scanned and put online by libraries that own them, so it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the case for this title. There are also some great translations out there.

Nowadays most archivists discourage gloves because the lack of touch sensitivity can cause unintentional damage to delicate books. Clean hands are actually preferred.

Gloves are not used anymore in archival settings. They can cause unintentional damage. Most archives nowadays just require washing hands before touching anything.
