⚽️ 📚Jack Leslie: The Lion Who Never Roared OUT NOW
In 2022, Leslie was immortalised with a statue at Home Park and, in 2023, his family received an honorary England cap from the FA at Wembley ahead of England’s game against Ukraine.

Historic England have today unveiled a blue plaque at the home of Jack Leslie - the first Black captain of a Football League club (Plymouth Argyle). Leslie was due to be England’s first black player when he was called up in 1925, but was deselected due to his race.

😠Anger at Ridsdale + the running of the club
😞2 wins in 15

Preston’s slump almost saw them slide through the Championship trap door.

A reprieve. Now a reset. #PNE

Declan Rice - even without the goals was great. Best position is as a left 8 crashing the box.

Bukayo Saka - even at 60% fitness was one of the best players on the pitch.

Myles Lewis-Skelly - what a player. Only 18. So brave and assured.

He locked in. 🔐

Location used to be such an issue for Exeter that they got rid of all of their scouts.

But #ECFC in 2025 is very different.

So, Plymouth vs Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Theres been a Liverpudlification of Plymouth in recent years. Sort of.
Piece from the summer. Some notable departures since.

Funny but predictable anecdote about Craig Ballamy refusing to swap shirts with a Yeading defender after the game (via Chronicle live) www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/footba...

Newcastle went all the way to the semis that year, losing 4-1 to Manchester United, and finished 14th in the Premier League. Yeading, meanwhile, won the Isthmian League title and were promoted to the Conference South. What happened next is worthy of its own thread!

The only shame that day is that the game was moved to Loftus Road, for commercial reasons, which I understand. It would have been amazing to see Newcastle's stars at Yeading's little stadium, The Warren, just off the Uxbridge Road.

That FA Cup run introduced the world to DJ Campbell. That summer he joined Brentford for £5,000. He scored on his debut and the rest is history. He went on to have more exploits in the FA Cup with Brentford and, in Jan 2006 was signed by Birmingham City in the Premier League.

Newcastle put out a strong side against Yeading, including new big-money signing Jean-Alain Boumsong. They ran out 2-0 winners in the end, second-half goals coming from Lee Bowyer and Shola Ameobi.

On this day 20 years ago Yeading — of the Isthmian League, the 7th tier — hosted Premier League side Newcastle United in the Fa Cup 3rd round. 123 places between the sides. A great occasion for all involved. The game was played at Loftus Road; Sven Goran Ericsson was even there

From near-extinction 20 years ago, Exeter were statistically the 20th best side in all four divisions in 2024
January 8, 2025 at 9:25 AM
Today is 20 years since Exeter City, then of the Conference, drew with Manchester United at Old Trafford, forcing a famous replay. 15 months prior, the club faced extinction but were saved by the fans. It's a story involving Michael Jackson, a criminal case and community spirit.

Wayne Rooney arrived at Plymouth determined to restore his managerial reputation. There was initial optimism but his time in Devon was characterised by poor, questions over his tactics and criticism of his off-field lifestyle. #PAFC - with @tburrows16.bsky.social
