I wonder what it could be about the cost, queues, red tape, loss of investment, loss of opportunity, isolation, dishonesty, failure and downright tedium of the Brexit moronathon that has led to people not rating it any more…

All wel and good lowering the voting age but it’s First Past the Post that needs to go. Make all Votes Matter @makevotesmatter.bsky.social
All well and good but the biggest fault in our democracy is our archaic electoral system which allows political parties to be elected even though two thirds of us vote against them. They accept Mayoral elections need to be elected fairly so why not Westminster?

Hopeless. Nothing like enough. These are little kiddie figures. It should be funded by borrowing, not spending cuts. And those cuts should not be based on trying to make us as meanspirited and irresponsible a country as possible. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c4...

The PM says the budget for overseas aid will be cut from 0.5% of gross national income to 0.3% by 2027 to fund increased defence spending.

What they tell you it means is accepting EU regulation with no say.
What they don’t admit is that’s the Brexit dilemma.
It’s painful or pointless.
And the Tory painful version is taking its toll. So, they whip up ‘sovereignty’ outrage to cover up the mess they’ve made and the lies they’ve told.

‘Betraying Brexit’
Such a moronic accusation.
What does it even mean?
Having a functioning relationship with our own continent?
Not being diplomatically incontinent?
Finding ways to collaborate and improve opportunities, travel and trade?
Great.
Brexit betrayed us
Very happy to betray it right back.

Laughter across the House as Kemi Badenoch accuses Keir Starmer of "giving away our Brexit freedoms".

Ah yes. Those freedoms that have crippled small businesses. Left gaping holes in our labour force. Made our tap water less safe and our food system less secure.

A stockbroker on a train was yelling about his trades on his phone so I started ostentatiously taking notes.

He, outraged: D'you mind, this is private!
Me, smiling sweetly: Not any more, hon.
Carriage: breaks out into applause as he stomped off in a rage.

This man was all for a no-deal Brexit.
He supports Johnson, Farage and Trump.
He’d like to forcibly deport asylum seekers to Rwanda.
He would have us leave the ECHR to pander to his deep and ruinous prejudices.
He doesn’t give a damn about our lives.
Why the hell should we care about his?

Please do read the comments under my article on assisted dying. People on both sides of the debate, who've gone through terrible grief talking about their conclusions. Really moving and even inspiring.

Farmers. They need to lay out – transparently – what average pre-tax profits are for, say, a £4m farm and a £10m farm.
At the moment the debate is polarised between:
a) they’re greedy rich bastards b) they’re impoverished suppliers of our food.

This should have been the TL:DR for the entire #brexit debate.
“Look at the figures. 50% of UK trade, broadly, is with the EU. We cannot afford to ignore that. Then again 15-20% is with the US. So, we will have to duck and weave, but we have to do so within a very straightforward principle: Geography matters. That makes Europe more important than the US.”
