Arctic sea-ice extent is still lowest on record for the date as of January 24th, about 63,000 km² below the previous record low for the date, set in 2018.

Will 2026 beat the record low maximum set just last year? The Climate 8-Ball is busy stocking its bunker.

Global sea-ice extent is now at an all-time record low in recorded history, with global sea-ice extent now 2.14 million square kilometers below the 1991-2020 average.
