Pitch I'm guessing is the width of the individual "tracks" on the flat cable. As you say getting a connector and using the retaining flap is probably the best idea, or for temporary use I'd try pushing the cable in and holding it down with some tape.

I've always called them Ribbon Connectors, but a quick search brings up the term FPC/FFC (flexible flat connector) as an option. From the looks of it this is the kind of thing you're looking for www.ebay.co.uk/itm/17430268...

Dangit, it is a pain when old supplies are tee'd off each other all over the place. My house is in a terrace of 3 and a plumber spotted 3x external stop taps. Turns the one that is obviously for next door off and I lose water. Turns out the one that looks like mine runs a 4th house behind all of us

Dangit. Have they given you a reason why a meter can't be fitted? I had to have one fitted indoors as they couldn't find the main running to my house under next door's drive

I believe you can request "Assessed Rates" for properties where you can't get a meter installed. They'll ask how many people/bathrooms you have and come up with a number slightly less random than the usual unmetered charge
