The good news is that 2026 is an election year. Let's make vote out everyone in green here. Remember those names, & support those looking to unseat them. Thanks to @lucymaloney.bsky.social @seanorr.bsky.social @ptfry.bsky.social and @rebeccaleebligh.bsky.social for standing up for Vancouverites. 4/

Councillour @lennynanzhou.bsky.social added an amendment, which ABC also passed, to fund some core services by sacrificing energy retrofits. This funding would have been spent installing life-saving heat pumps in SROs & low-income housing. Instead, more people will die in the next heat dome. 3/

Although the proposed budget has very little detail - it's only 23 pages - the size of the cuts ensures that important programs vital to support social services, community programming, safe streets, arts and culture, and climate action will be impacted. Any claims to the contrary are gaslighting. 2/

With respect, if cities want scooter riders to ride in designated cycle lanes, they need to build them everywhere. Shaming users for choosing the option that keeps them safer, when the alternative is sharing unsafe streets with speeding multi-ton vehicles, is unhelpful at best & harmful at worst.

The climate & sustainability department stands to be eliminated entirely. Planning, urban design, & sustainability faces 14% cuts. Arts, culture, & community services - 12% cuts. But police budget gets a 10% increase. 🙄 Please sign up. If you’re nervous, COPE is holding a training tonight at 6.
