I research, write, and teach about the Quaker tradition. I also write fiction (mainly sapphic romance novels set in prehistory) and poetry. She/her.
I did make some progress this #OcTBR. I also decided not to read a few, but... more arrived as well!

OcTBR update: finished this. I think I've been returning to it periodically for about a year, stalled by several changes to the project I thought it might help with and in life in general, but today I was off sick but awake enough to amble through the last sixty pages. @octbrchallenge.bsky.social

Here's my complete TBR pile at the moment (including several items on the Kindle). I think there are two reservations at the library which I will also count! Stone Lands is no longer on the shelf because I finished it today - very good. #OcTBR

Found on a local street - probably from a parakeet, since a group of them live in the nearby park.

I just scrolled through the replies expecting someone to have posted this already, but I can't see it. Same person, different magazines, different audiences. The one on the right would make extra buttered toast just for you.

"Your food choices could not be tied to any one social class" because we didn't include enough vegetarian, let alone vegan, options to get a read. Which is a bit ironic because at least in my UK context those dietary choices are themselves often seen to be class marked.

My novel Carving a New Shape is on sale this week as part of @iheartsapphfic.bsky.social 's Self Discovery week: both main characters learn about themselves during the novel, but especially Laki, who is away from home for the first time when she falls in love. iheartsapphfic.com/2025/06/23/2...

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who is coming to save you?

Today is my last day working for @woodbrooke.bsky.social (as permanent staff; I'll be back as an Associate Tutor on Monday, so I'm not going very far!) I've been with Woodbrooke since 2016. I've learned a lot, especially about teaching and Quakers. I'm sad to be going but ready for new adventures.

Between Boat & Shore is on sale this week as part of @iheartsapphfic.bsky.social's Historical Fiction week. It's a sapphic love story but also an exploration of Neolithic Scotland and a reflection on community and leadership.

Anne Carlini reviews Speaking in Quaker Meeting for Worship: "has the over-arcing ability to both relax you and yet openly teach you at the very same time. ... designed for anyone who would like to further understand Quaker meeting for worship..." annecarlini.com/ex_books.php

Seal spotted! This is a screenshot from the #SouthWalney web cam. The still image doesn't give as many clues as the stream, where the movement helps to clearly distinguish a seal (popping up from below) from something drifting (on the surface) or a seabird (landing or taking off).

BlueSky tip: enable the "require alt text" option in your accessibility settings (first picture). It will remind you to add alt text describing your image before you post (second picture) and then I (and others who aim to only repost things with alt text) will be more likely to share your posts.

I'm on the way to Britain Yearly Meeting. I already met one Friend going to the same place and look forward to seeing many more! #Quaker

It's here! I have received copies of my new Quaker Quicks book, Speaking in Quaker Meeting for Worship: what, when, how, and why. Hopefully that means it will also be reaching bookshops soon - the official publication date is at the end of May.

We're at Kew Gardens seeing the orchids, which is bordering on grand, but also lovely.

Are you doing the 2025 sapphic book bingo? (Full rules and cards on @jaeauthor.bsky.social's website: jae-fiction.com/sapphic-book... ) My novels, Between Boat & Shore and Carving a New Shape, would fit the 'Set on an island' category. Carving a New Shape has an epilogue and I count as a new author.

I forgot to post this two days ago, but 2002 seems like an equally good round number. This is my writing streak at 4thewords.com and I'd recommend trying it if you want to write regularly. I do use the streak saver option at times and have managed to average about 780 words a day since 2019.
