I did like part 1 (haven't seen part 2 yet), but yeah... I'm a costume nerd who's been obsessed with the stage show for 20 years, so it's disappointing that the movie costumes aren't making me go nuts.

Nothing but respect to the designer and crafters behind it, though- they did amazing work.

Up close, it's clear that the craftmanship and detail is insanely good- but far away, they're somehow less than the sum of their parts. I wish they were more fantastical in silhouette, etc.

I also think it flat lighting/coloring of the movie doesn't help
