Exploring the stories we tell each other and ourselves. Creating a few of my own as well. He/him.
I'd like to see magazines return to prominence as a go-to source of 'content'.

And maybe as the internet gets more and more crowded with content, that's exactly what'll happen.

This is the best ad ever.

Doctor is speaking question, yet says no question.

Egg is vegetable.

Should doctor attempt to plummet own blood sugar, or is it uncertain if throw out egg will plummet blood sugar in general?

Most compelling, such click.

A lil snippet from my podcast episode: I Miss Magazines.

One of the strengths of magazines is their focused, finite nature means they don't have to try the 'spray-and-pray' approach of online content creation.

It’s really important to take to heart the very prescriptive and generic advice imparted by forum users who may or may not have actually written anything themselves.

Can books not be challenging? Language shouldn’t have to go easy on you.

#Autism and #ADHD means I often think up some truly kick-ass systems, routines, and ideas to make my life easier…then promptly forget them.

So at the start of the year I created a ‘Manual of Me’ to help keep me on track.

Magazines! Do you still read them? I feel like they may be a good alternative to today's content soup, rather than an outdated format.

What do you think?

Once you finish your book, you have to actually tell people what it’s about.

It’s therefore imperative that you never finish your book.

Treating people like they’re stupid is the best way to make them stupid.
100,000 words in an average novel, and none of them is supposed to challenge you?

Any other #ActuallyAutistic and #ADHD folks find measuring productivity difficult?

I struggle with this in work - I’m constantly wondering if I’ve ’done enough’ - so I found a way to visualise it using dice. Here’s how it works: open.substack.com/pub/rewantre...

Lovely insight from Tim Minchin here on what actually constitutes art. This is from his collected speeches, You Don’t Have To Have A Dream. A super quick but very thought-provoking read.

Beautiful and eerie. We stopped by the local wishing well today. Didn’t have a strip of cloth to hang on the tree though. These are all people’s hopes for healing and memories of those already gone.

I hate these wall-mounted kitchen knife holders. The last thing I want to present an intruder with is a selection of potential murder weapons.

'Oh, it's the Autism' isn't just the name of my newsletter, it's something of a mantra.

Because what could be more neurodivergent than sometimes forgetting you are?

Being sick as a kid: Watch films and cartoons all day on the sofa.

Being sick as an adult: Pretty sure I’ve coughed up an organ, but I’ve got work in 45 minutes.

“Keep it short and simple” always annoys me. We’re limiting our ability to express ourselves due to the fear of challenging our readers.

No one has an attention span for books anymore.

If you can, act out your book on social media instead.

Any name sounds fantastical when you spell it wrong:

Gary = Gharrae
Karen = Charehn
Simon = Symun

Bonus worldbuilding points if you throw an apostrophe in the middle.

People sometimes change very suddenly.

Did they discover a 'hack' or a 'secret'?

Or was something else at work?

THREAD:

I gave up on reading challenges in 2024 because I was beginning to understand that reading consistently wasn't working for me.

It was time to 'let myself off the leash' and find out what my AuDHD brain needed and how it worked.

How to take a good author photo:

Pose like your arm is glued to a bookcase, but you haven’t noticed because you’re wondering why there’s a pelican on the top shelf.
