My late-step-mother would have loved this “Letter from an American,” both for the history lesson and for the reporting on the "We Ain’t Buying It” movement. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/november-2...

“Far too many people think climate change is caused by (or at least can be seriously addressed through) personal actions like recycling, eating less meat, shopping at thrift stores, turning off the lights when you leave a room, taking fewer airplane trips, ->

13 years ago, the call was to #dothemath. We're still working on it, still working to stop fossil fuel pollution and keep the climates productive. Join the effort.

And many thanks to @billmckibben.bsky.social for your leadership for something like four decades.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if House Republicans were serious about averting a federal government shut down, they would be in D.C. working with House Democrats and Senators from both sides of the aisle to find common ground. They’re not serious: they’re on vacation.

If ever there was a time to practice the discipline of nonviolent direct action, it is now. We must push back against the fascists in the federal administration, and we must do it nonviolently.

There is no reason that putting a solar PV system on a roof in the USA would be seven times as expensive as it is in Australia. This needs to change!

You are not alone!

A recent survey from the Public Religion Research Institute (PPRI), a nonpartisan independent research organization, found that 56% of Americans agree that “President Trump is a dangerous dictator whose power should be limited before he destroys American democracy,” while ->

Here’s a quote, important for us in the USA today, from Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), speaking on “All In with Chris Hayes.”

“[T]here’s a lot of history that has taken place in the East Wing [of the White House], and it was just destroyed without any conversation in the American public, ->

What’s at stake is nothing less than democracy as we’ve known in to be replaced by politics by force. We cannot let that happen. Keep united. Keep struggling. Keep demanding democracy.

Columbus, Ohio, greeted me warmly* and included me in their #NoKings rally. The crowd was big (though I have no idea how many). The signs were creative, passionate, and pretty much free of name-calling and meanness. People really love this country of ours and want freedom and justice for all people.

I was just at the #NoKings rally in Columbus, Ohio, at the Statehouse and I can report that there was at least one hoard and maybe more there. Of course the fact that I don’t really know what constitutes a hoard makes this estimate unhelpful.

For the fun of it, I checked to see how many followers I have. I’m amused by the number, but then I’m the kind of guy who gets excited when the odometer changes from 9999 to 10000.

Back in 1968, my parents were huge Eugene McCarthy supporters. I remember, after the campaign, we still had reams of letters copied to mail out to various mailing lists to encourage support for his presidential campaign. We had bags of leftover campaign buttons.

I keep thinking about how God took the side of the enslaved and oppressed and even sent plagues against Pharaoh to bring freedom … and that one of those plagues was FROGS!
