Started my sabbatical today on the West Bank of the Mississippi in South Louisiana; with a sobering visit to the Whitney Plantation.

As pastors, their families, & other leaders faced financial hardship due to their unwillingness to combine nationalism with their faith, Martin Niemöller established the Pastors Emergency League -- whose primary purpose was to provide financial relief for these families.
