They didn’t care.” UPDATEThat’s what Iraq combat veteran and U.S. citizen George Retes Jr. told NPR after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested him on July 10, 2025, and held him for three days without charges.🔍 What Happened:· The Raid: Retes, 25, was on his way to his security job at Glass House Farms in Camarillo, CA, when he drove into a massive ICE raid.· The Arrest: Agents surrounded his car, lobbed tear gas, shattered his window, pepper-sprayed him, and dragged him out. He says agents knelt on his back and neck, making it hard to breathe.· The Detention: He was taken to a Los Angeles detention center, strip-searched, and held for three days and nights without being allowed a phone call, a lawyer, or a shower to wash off the chemical agents. He missed his daughter’s third birthday.⚖️ The Aftermath & Allegations:After Retes wrote a public account of his ordeal, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) accused him of assaulting agents—an allegation he and his attorneys vehemently deny as retaliation.
