Retro Tech Restorations

I fumble around on my YouTube channel trying to repair old stuff. Mainly vintage audio gear such as tube/transistor radios, amplifiers, cassette decks, record players, test equipment, ...

So this is my current task... Correcting the sloppy wiring I did on this arcade control panel 15 years ago.

I bought my PS2 on release day. (24/11/2000). Here is the receipt. It cost friggin' 600 euros (including one game).

A bit ashamed to share this, but this is what happens when you don't check your pinball machines' batteries for 10 years. Luckily I installed a separate battery holder 10 years ago when I restored this machine. Check your batteries, fellas!

Built myself a XUM1541-II to connect my 1541 disk drive to a modern PC. Works great! #commodore64

Never fun if something breaks in the RF section of a radio. Soldering 0.1mm diameter copper wires can be quite a frustrating experience.

Well I'm using my first Commodore 64 for exactly 3 days now, and here I am correcting bad sectors on floppy disks by directly editing hex data. Boy, this escalated quickly. #retrocomputing #Commodore64

Yes it is! That's impressive, recognizing it from the side.
It's actually branded as "High Screen", but it's a Philips TP-200.

Well, this happened. I've been watching too much of @adriansdigitalbasement.com and @janbeta.net lately, so as a result I've bought my first Commodore 64. Thanks a lot, guys. 🙈

On the left: a selenium bridge rectifier from the 1950s. Rated at 250V / 75mA. On the right a modern bridge rectifier, rated at 250V / 2A. Progress.

Cleaning switches on a tube radio feels like playing a piano.

I haven't done anything photography related for the past 10 months. Now I'm slowly starting again. First job: scanning a couple of leftover rolls from last year.

Completely rewired the power for my garden lighting. Took me a whole day yesterday. 🥴

Working on tube radios means... making your own shielded capacitors. Quite pleased with this one actually.

Some retro computer related pictures from my recent visit to the Philips museum in Eindhoven. A working P2000 and a card for a vacuum tube-based computer (Philips PASCAL). #retrotech #retrocomputing

Spent some time organising my capacitors. Is there anything more satisfying than sorting your components? Or maybe that's just me...
