The face of Kellogg's internationally sold cereal was most commonly seen causing mayhem with the cereal's crunch or racing his unnamed young friend to the cereal. He was replaced by his friend, Coco Monkey, when the cereal rebranded as a Coco Pops spin-off.

Before chatbots were emitting CO2 to give you answers, Jeeves - named after P. G. Wodehouse's fictional valet - attracted users to the all-purpose, reliable answer engine Ask Jeeves, later known as Ask. He enjoyed a second life in the UK from 2009, redesigning him in 3D.

The ads, voiced over by Idris Elba, depicted a world populated by anthropomorphic bees. They would casually discuss the benefits of Freebee rewards while running into everyday problems usually associated with bees, like walking into windows or getting stuck to wet paint.

Led by the jolly Father Abbot (Derek Nimmo), these hardworking monks created by Wyatt Cattaneo were responsible for production on KP crisps. The church also housed trustworthy newcomer Brother Benjamin, Italian chef Brother Angelo and burly heavy load carrier Big John.

Part panda, part dog, part Italo-New Jersey mobster - a "danda" - Vinnie was a connoisseur of the finer things, ensuring that everyone recognised his favourite "biscwits" as a thing of luxury. He auctioned off his belongings on eBay to make amends for his shady past.

Pat Harrington Jr. and Lennie Weinrib voiced and Bill Melendez directed this comic rabbit duo in a series of 8-second spots where they gave each other tastes of Carnation dairy, but the products would often inflict exaggerated side effects on them. "Thanks a lot, Harry!"

Created by John Webster, voiced by Peter Hawkins, these metal Martians made British cultural history mocking earthlings mashing potatoes the old, arduous way - and puppeteers fooling around on set were to thank. They briefly returned on TV in 1992, and on packaging in 2004.

This Southern colonel riff on Cap'n Crunch was seen on ice cream vans across America, presenting Gold Bond's (later Popsicle's) range of cake-coated ice cream bars with a cheerful smile.

Weetabix's chocolate hoops were introduced with a West Midlands skateboarder named Derek. His exuberantly animated ads saw him escaping his square reality by enjoying the cereal not just for breakfast, but as the wheels on a bike, a tennis racket or the cymbals in a drum kit.

Nescafé introduced two new Gold Blend couples later in the 90's - Louise Hunt and Mark Aiken, followed by Simone Bendix and Neil Roberts. Louise and Mark's series enjoyed a healthy six instalments, but did not achieve the same recognition as the first. Simone and Neil did not go further than one ad.

Anthony Head and Sharon Maughan played Tony and Sharon in a serialised campaign covering the couple's complicated romantic bond over coffee. The adverts were so successful that the two reprised their roles for Taster's Choice in the US.

A smug, sporty boy who would tempt anyone considered a "geek" into tasting Frosted or Cocoa Shreddies for the first time, knowing that the taste would overwhelm them as to send them zooming up like a rocket. "Too tasty for geeks!" It was the early 2000's.

A blue beast voiced by John Goodman moved from the city of Monstropolis into human territory. Sound familiar? Well, this one brought his wife and kids. This sitcom-style campaign for Sky+ ran through the last third of 2010 and saw this fuzzy family adjusting to British life.

This mouse hula-hooped his way into UK audiences' hearts to sell the aerated chocolate as "all bubble, no squeak." Ads saw his breed sold alongside Aero bars, only to be rejected or disposed of despite their talents. For Aero Honeycomb, a Taiwanese singing mouse was introduced.

A boy who only ate fruit and veg, declaring his love for spinach and sprouts to the shock or annoyance of others. Not only did a solely healthy child being depicted as friendless concern parents, but Sunny D, the so-called "healthy" soft drink, was ridden with additives.

A Jonathan Kydd-voiced, loop-de-looping daredevil bee, often seen tempting preoccupied kids with Honey Loops or diving into trouble on his way to the cereal. After 18 years away from TV, he was replaced with Pops, the bee mascot for Miel Pops across Europe.

A stop-motion skeletal snowman, initially handled by Bolexbrothers and later by Mike Mort, who would show up on a hot day as nothing but bones and sticks until he drank Nestea's iced tea, which covered his skeleton in snow and helped him stay cool, at least for a while.

Shortly after creating the Tetley Tea Folk, Wyatt Cattaneo designed for Ty-Phoo Tea this polite, Derek Griffiths-voiced wildebeest, who serenaded his praises for the tea to the tune of 'The Gnu'. Though commonly referred to as Mr. Gnu, the print ad below named him "Norman".
