Something I recall thinking when watching Wicked is despite how wholesome the old 30s movie is, it's still cynical enough to say a giant floating head telling a teenager to go on life-or-death missions is probably a con artist. Yet you see something like MMPR play that scenario completely straight.

Yeah, that "Bane occupies Gotham" plot in TDKR was politically messy, but I don't think that should stain the fact he's usually been in favor of the people irl.
