You can turn off permadeath,It's more survival/craft & no meta progression.If you like farming/base building then you might enjoy it because those are the core features.What I like most about the cooking system is that when you eat food it gives permanent upgrades & it ties nicely with progression

Try Elin if you like sandbox JRPGs, its in EA and needs more content but I still enjoyed the the game.It is already one of my favourite sandbox rpg games.
