Member of Congress, Representing Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional Dist., Adjunct Professor at Xavier University of Louisiana specializing in Government, American Politics, Foreign Policy & the U.S. Constitution. Loving Husband and Father of two awesome sons!
I was proud to join Dillard University for the ribbon cutting of their new off-campus residence hall. This beautiful new facility will house more than 200 students and represents another step in Gentilly’s continued renewal since Hurricane Katrina.

Happy #NativeAmericanHeritage Month! In November, and all year long, we honor the rich heritage, traditions, & contributions of Indigenous peoples. We recognize and celebrate #Louisiana’s tribal nations, past and present, & the vital role they play in shaping our state’s history, culture, & future.

Tonight, I voted NO on the disastrous Republican budget because it abandons the very people we were sent here to serve—working families, seniors, and children who depend on affordable health care.

Twelve days into open enrollment, millions of Americans are already feeling the pain of higher premiums, deductibles, and copays. Yet the Senate-negotiated package does nothing to solve the Republican health care crisis. Families deserve real relief, not political games.

Happy Founders’ Day to the women of #SGRho, especially to my colleague and dear friend Rep. Robin Kelly!  Here's to 103 years of sisterhood, scholarship, and service.

Did you know that 80 percent of voters, including 82 percent of swing voters, believe the Trump administration should prioritize domestic issues over the Argentina bailout? The American people are focused on the issues that affect their everyday lives like affordable health care and groceries.

Veterans Day isn’t just a day off — it’s a day of gratitude.
We honor the brave men and women who served, those still serving, and the families who stand beside them.
Freedom has a cost — and they paid it for us.

I’m grateful that #SCOTUS has denied the request to revisit the landmark marriage equality decision. Every person deserves dignity, respect, & the freedom to marry the person they love. This ruling reaffirms that those rights are not up for debate. This is a win for equality, democracy, & love.

Today I learned that my very dear friend and colleague, @repbonnie.bsky.social, will not seek reelection.

Today, the Marine Corps celebrates 250 years of dedicated service to our nation. To every Marine who has served, and to those who continue to serve, thank you for your sacrifice, your strength, and your unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms.

I am deeply disappointed in the Senate for abandoning the fight for affordable health care for working families.

The Senate walked away from working families tonight. By refusing to extend ACA tax credits, they made health care more expensive for millions. We cannot turn our backs on the people we serve. I will keep fighting for affordable health care for every American.

On episode 7 of “What Makes America Tick?” I sat down with my friend @seiu.org President April Verrett. We discussed the power of labor unions in supporting workers, breaking cycles of generational poverty, and dismantling structural racism.

How cruel. How inhuman.

Donald Trump is fighting in court to block SNAP benefits—keeping food from American families, children, and the disabled.

Hunger has no party.
This isn’t politics—it’s cruelty at its highest order.

We’re now nearly 40 days into the #RepublicanShutdown, and Donald Trump and #MAGA Republicans are doubling down on the harm by fighting a federal court order to pay November SNAP benefits in full. They are weaponizing hunger for political gain. YOU deserve better!

Today, I cast my early vote — a right earned through sacrifice and struggle. Early voting is happening now, and Election Day is Saturday, November 15. Let’s honor those who fought for this privilege — get out and vote!

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi has been a steadfast champion for the American people. From the #ACA, to the #AmericanRescuePlan, to the #InflationReductionAct, she helped deliver life-changing progress that expanded access to health care, uplifted working families, and strengthened communities.

Our federal workers, including U.S. Capitol Police officers, do so much to keep our government running safely and effectively. It was great to join Rep. Jeffries and House Dems to provide them with lunch and thank them for their ongoing service and commitment.

Congratulations to my dear friend, former congressional colleague, and Governor-Elect Abigail Spanberger! She’s made history as the first woman ever elected Governor of Virginia, and I know she will continue to serve with the same commitment to the people that defined her time in Congress.

We’re now 34 days into the #RepublicanShutdown, and Trump is illegally withholding #SNAP benefits from American families. While we fight back in Congress & the courts, community matters more than ever.

Happy Halloween #LA02! I remember my days trick-or-treating in the Cutoff, so I delivered candy for the kids growing up there now. Stay safe tonight!

Happy 100th Birthday to Ms. Odile Yvonne Ellison Berry! She is a beloved Louisianian and a true blessing to our community. Wishing her joy and love as she celebrates this remarkable milestone!

On November 1st, #SNAP benefits will lapse for the first time since the program began. The Trump administration has the funds and legal  authority to fully fund SNAP next month, but instead they're suspending it for 42 million Americans. This is what "America First" looks like in practice.

My prayers are with Jamaica as Hurricane Melissa makes landfall. I know firsthand how frightening and devastating these storms can be. Wishing safety, strength, and protection for everyone in the storm’s path.
