I think it has worth in documenting an adult becoming more and more familiar with games, but as you say it kinda shifts from the original premise of "non gamer plays game" as it goes on.

Awesome, thank you! Outer Worlds is the Obsidian game that recently got a sequel right? Does she come back at all in the second one, just out of curiosity?

I was interested in these games anyway so that's a good excuse to check them out finally!

Hey, the games for impact category is where a lot of more obscure indies actually get recognition, the meaning is nebulous but I like the role it plays in the show and the games it does end up championing.

Pretty much, there's an argument to be made about how it took away representation and acknowledgement from other great games & devs in this stacked year by taking home 50% of the show's award roster, but anything further than that honestly seems unhealthy.

I think anyone hating on E33 is missing the point honestly. If like me you weren't happy with this years TGA's cause of the roll E33 played in it, that's not a problem you can reasonably blame E33 for, it's the fault of the show, its format, and how its run. Its insane to hate a game for being good.

That's kinda wrapping around to dismissing E33 like the awards did the other games but I do agree with the first bit lol

Way I see it is that he could be a LOT worse, at least he seems genuine about games, even if his show and his role in it are not ideal and should by all rights be improved upon.

Honest to god, even with that said I still don't think E33 was the best RPG of the year, it was honestly very disappointing as an RPG in a lot of ways, out of all the things good about that game the RPG and JRPG elements are not all that outstanding to me.
December 13, 2025 at 7:53 PM
That's fair enough, not something I fully agree with at that point of separation but I 1,000,000% get why you and most other people in the world (including myself to a lesser degree) feel that way towards engaging with anything to do with products that directly or indirectly support her!

Sorry if I'm missing something in the industry, but isn't it free on Epic now? Is there some alternate monetization on Epic that funds her asides from the direct sales royalties?

Also worth noting that in this very award show, Geoff himself butchered the pronunciation of an English word twice over when saying a game's title, in the same way Sydney did with a foreign title, that being him pronouncing Wuthering Waves as Werthering Waves, and no one batted an eye.
December 13, 2025 at 6:37 PM
And they're only put against each other cause of the nebulous definition of indie, so people semantics their favourite games into being indie as in the modern gaming landscape, indie is more prestigious and desirable than AAA or AA.
December 13, 2025 at 4:16 PM
E33 and these games occupy the same cultural perception of "indie games" and compete for the dollar of people looking to buy a indie title, putting games like these against each other actively harms the ability of smaller indies to produce art and get recognition.
December 13, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Ah yes, because that makes it so much fairer to put multi million dollar published games with actual movie actors like E33 against self funded shoestring budget games like Megabonk & Blue Prince.

Hate on the RL's all you want, but you're missing the point. E33 is in a different weight class.

For what it's worth, as transphobic as the person behind the series is, and as representative and stained as the franchise is of that person's views, the game itself is actually pro trans and has decent trans & queer representation.

No? Their entire phonetics are different from English, I know people who are more familiar with Japanese stuff like us take this knowledge as basic and for granted, but the majority of people who have little exposure to the language often mispronounce the words and struggle even after hearing them.
December 13, 2025 at 1:48 PM
Gonna be real, there have been countless times a man has mispronounced Chinese or other foreign, non Japanese words, and no one gave a flip. This honestly just feels like people sanctificatifying Japanese words specifically, and getting mad cause a woman didn't show it proper respect.

As I said, E33's progression has a lot of problems lol
December 13, 2025 at 10:58 AM
That's fair, guess I'm just projecting my own internal conflict I have between my disregard to the importance of TGA's and its role in the industry/culture, and my excess of regard to the dev's own feelings towards TGA's, onto your words that resonate with the first half of that conflict.
December 13, 2025 at 10:58 AM
It would have been well received but not nearly to the extent it is RN. Like many people I first heard of it as a game that championed the dissatisfaction towards modern gaming and AAA studios, so with that gone it would've reached a much smaller audience imo.

Circle jerk speedrun any%
December 13, 2025 at 10:45 AM
For all the problems E33's progression has, an excess of grinding is certainly not one of them at least. If anything, grinding is so not a problem that if you do any it makes the game worse.
December 13, 2025 at 10:42 AM
I really don't like that, cause whilst I agree with you, it clearly means a hell of a lot to the devs themselves since a few years ago, even though it probably shouldn't. So saying things like this feels like it kinda disregards those dev's own feelings on it.
