In our new @NatureComms paper, we investigate the visual system's priorities for extracting meaningful information from faces and bringing it to conscious awareness. We use a new tachistoscope that enables visual presentations as short as 0.002 ms: nature.com/articles/s41... (🧵👇)
Minimal exposure durations reveal visual processing priorities for different stimulus attributes - Nature Communications
Minimal exposure durations required for visual processing of stimulus attributes can reveal the system’s priorities. Here, the authors show a distinct sequence of minimal exposures needed for face pro...

Are interoception and mental health linked? Many assume so, with interoception even described as a psychiatric “p-factor.” But in our latest preprint, we were surprised to find little evidence for such a connection. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1... 🧵 Thread with our reflections on the matter 👇
Interoceptive Ability is Unrelated to Mental Health Symptoms: Evidence From a Large Scale Multi-Domain Psychophysical Investigation
Interoception-the sensing and perception of the internal viscera-is widely cast as a transdiagnostic mechanism linking brain-body interaction to mental illness. Prevailing models propose that altered ...

📣 New preprint 📣

The brain attenuates self-touch, but how does this unfold at the neural level before the touch? We used MEG to find out 🧠 👉👈
Motor prediction reduces beta-band power and enhances cerebellar-somatosensory connectivity before self-touch to enable its attenuation
Prevailing theories suggest that the brain uses an internal forward model to predict tactile input during voluntary movements, thereby reducing the intensity of the reafferent tactile sensation, a phe...
