If we accept that the western hemisphere is named North, Central and South Amerika, then all people of the Amerikas are Amerikans. The people of the u.s. don't get to say they are THE Amerikans as if they are the only ones.

I agree. As a Native, I've always had a problem with this. About the holocaust, we're told to "never forget." But when we bring up the fact that an even larger genocide took place here on u.s. soil when tens of millions of Native people were killed, we're told to "move on."
