A lot of it may have been knowing the twist in advance. As it's the basic premise for the series it doesn't work as a mystery in the first episode, since the viewer knows where it's going. And it leaned heavily on that mystery.

Having seen the first episode of Pluribus my main criticism was how slow it was. 15 minutes to set up the premise, then 45 minutes to say "everyone is part of a hive mind now apart from this one woman".

I feel like googling that name might get you in trouble.

But would you ever read it?
