He reaches for her, “Olivia?” “No. You didn't always come back to me.” The truth of the statement takes a moment to sink in. He didn't come back, once. He fucked up; he had no idea. He wonders if she's going to eviscerate him, instead, she closes her eyes and shakes her head, allowing silence to fill the space for a few seconds. “But you do now.”

She heads towards the precinct, after dropping Noah off, listening to the news radio station, the dulcet tones of the reporter turning into nothing more than a buzz in the background. Her eyes lose focus as she stares at her knuckles while she turns the wheel. He'd run his thumb over the thin skin and bones last night – Elliot had; his palm resting over the back of her left hand, her stomach had swooped as her mouth had gone dry and she had stared at the place where they'd been touching. He touches her easily, now, and she wants more.

She thinks there's been a mistake, as she stares down at the line once more. NYPD liaison: Det. Elliot Stabler. She can hear the blood pumping through her veins. She feels like her whole body is vibrating with every beat of her heart. She presses her palm there, in the middle of her sternum, willing and wishing for the violence of the beats to subside. Her eyes look up and out of the blinds, to the empty squad room. She feels the tears prick the corner of her eyes as she finally sucks in a breath. What the actual fuck?

Don't read the last page. In all the years she's been handed a report, she has never found herself in the position where someone has written a postscript on a sticky note and underlined it; she can't not be curious about what's on that last page that one of her subordinates didn't want her to read. But it's not just anyone who wrote the note, it's Fin. Fin had taken over this case when she suddenly found herself in the middle of something pressing. She flips to the last page. When Noah was younger, they used to whisper in one another's ears when they wanted to discuss something and didn't want anyone else to hear, or when Noah was uncomfortable. Now, her son is a teenager and doesn't whisper in her ear anymore. But he does text her occasionally, important questions that he's too scared to talk about out loud. Sometimes he'll add in an abbreviation for how he wants her answer, IP for in-person or TX for texts. Today's question has her baffled as to what to say. Sometimes, when she sits in the quiet of the apartment with her glass of red wine at the end of the night while her son is tucked away safely beneath his covers in his room behind his closed door, she stares at her fridge. She has no idea why or how Elliot has tracked her all the way to Jersey, but the fact that he'd pulled his gun and gotten in the back seat and backed her play reminds her and annoys her that he's in her business. She can only imagine the rip she's going to get and she was trying to save him from the same fate by telling him to back off. I'm your partner. He'd actually had the nerve to tell her that, as though being her partner suddenly gave him the right to insert himself into her personal life.

The brown envelope arrives on a Friday afternoon via interoffice communication and as she flips the thing over, she's surprised to find it's from OCCB. Surely if they had a case to consult over, he would've just called, right? She pulls the folder out, surprised to see how old and weathered it looks but then the post-it on the front catches her attention. ‘Read this, then call me. She'd have retreated further. So many mental health messages to people WHO HAVE dealt with traumatic experiences lately are sooooo problematic.

Sitting on the couch with her legs tucked underneath her, she stares at the wine glass on the table in front of her. She'd poured the drink while standing in the kitchen after checking on her son, thoughts still frozen on the way she'd almost offered herself up in exchange for Carisi. For a moment she'd forgotten herself. For a moment she'd forgotten that she was all her son had. For a moment, she'd done what she always does and thought instead of everyone else. It's another thing she's going to have to unpack in therapy… one day.

In fact, she's wearing a pair of his sweatpants instead of the dress she had been wearing earlier… and he'd thrown a black hoodie over her shoulders and had her hold her hand in the towel as they'd rushed out the door; as her hand had been bleeding profusely from the gash.

The room is pitch dark and she doesn't like the dark anymore. Of course, she knows there's nothing to fear because the person she's trapped in the room with won't let anything happen to her. He'd rather die first. His boot knocks against hers as she shifts again, her ass going numb from sitting on the floor in the same position for so long. “Think the team is gonna find us before Christmas?” He asks. She hears him shift and then his hand reaches out and touches her leg, as he feels his way to position himself next to her. “That's debatable.” She shrugs, her shoulder bumping into his. She feels the warmth of his hand on her leg and reaches down, covering it with her own, tangling their fingers together, “If I know Fin, he's already punched some poor unsuspecting other Sergeant in the jaw.” “He's a good second for you,” Elliot squeezes her fingers, “always knew you'd be a good leader.” She smiles in the dark, leaning her head against his shoulder. She feels braver in the dark. “When they get us out…” she bites her lip, “I think we should talk about us. What happened… moving forward.”
