you say "woven knit". Is it woven (straight threads in the fabric) or knit? (Little "V"s on the outside and bumpy on the inside)
The way you're describing it sounds knit, so I'd try dampening it in cool/tepid water, squishing (not wringing!) the water out, and laying it flat to dry on a towel.
