Through circumstance, Vernius and Ander wind up tethered: Vernius can't weave magic without Ander nearby, and Ander's stolen magic is shared with Vernius.

With Vernius in the midst of an investigation, they strike a deal: Ander cooperates, and he gets to sail away freely.
What could go wrong?
Vernius and Ander on a small flying ship, sailing the sky. The dark night sky is full of clouds, with a dark city to the left. Small bits of light dot its heights. In the middle of the scene, a distant brighter city is surrounded by blue day-skies. In the foreground on the right, Ander is holding the mast and pointing at Vernius with a taunting laugh. Vernius, holding a map, is half turned, grimacing at him sternly. A comic page Night time, Vernius, with visible injuries on his face, looks at a door. "'Meet up here', huh? An unmarked door...Spells laced to encase the interior, too." He opens it up with a creak, as light from inside coming through the crack "But it still matches his description..." Inside is a loud tavern. Ander's holding his tankard up, yelling "Another round!!" Cheers around him, but Vernius is less amused. "Of course." He walks past Ander, ignoring him and holding a book in his hand, but Ander looks over his shoulder. "Ah, so he made it out in one piece after all!" Ander leans on the bar. "A drink to wash down that taste of the real world, Officer Guilford?" Vernius is turned away and hunched over reading, saying nothing at first. The next panel is closer, with only half of Ander's profile visible, still smiling with the cabinet of drinks behind him, as Vernius speaks from off-panel. "Fine. You delayed...'assistance' earlier is appreciated. But I don't need your money, nor your vices." The next panel now shows some of Vernius, back to the viewer, head slightly turned towards Ander. "I just want a glass of water. A fresh glass, ideally." Up-close shots: Ander slides towards Vernius, no longer smiling. Vernius glares at him as he gets closer. Large close up shot of the two of them. Ander says, "Got the shit beat outta you, but still too good for a beer. Got anything else to say, Vern?" "Well, Ander, what I am saying is that I've got a lot to clean up around here. And that I don't drink on the job." The bottom panels have Vernius's back close to the viewer as he continues. "And that I'm dehydrated." The bartender hands him a glass of water as he speaks, and Ander just squints at him silently. In the final panel, Ander turns, drinking the remainder of his tankard. "Yeah, I hear ya. Dry bastard." Vernius drinks his water as well.

Ander, the bandit and ex-pirate.

Flirting with danger and men at every chance he can get, Ander lives a daring life, stealing magic to sell to the highest bidder. Once in a pirate crew, but left for...personal reasons!

He has friends anywhere he goes, but some are a little less friendly nowadays
