Just went through spam and saw a pile of emails from Dawn Mason, a longtime Bruce Harrell ally he brought onstage at his election party, calling me "white trash" and a "petty thief," and claiming I went to her house one time univited (a bizarre falsehood she keeps repeating.) Such strange behavior.

the implication that brown people selling tacos are inherently unsanitary or dirty has some real implications at the present moment

You probably won't be surprised to learn that the Times editorial board never came close to suggesting Mike McGinn, like mayor-elect Katie Wilson a transit-oriented lefty, was a foolish little nitwit who doesn't even know who runs the transit agency.
just casual sexism to undermine a woman’s knowledge
double whammy she’s not a corporate cheerleader
The disingenuous whiners at the Seattle Times ed board actually suggested that Katie Wilson—mayor-elect and the founder of the Transit Riders Union (who used to do outreach at the bus stop on Third and Union)—doesn't know that the county, not the city, runs the buses. Cry harder, losers

91 votes separate the two mayoral candidates in Seattle, but Katie Wilson has pulled ahead of incumbent Bruce Harrell and is now in the lead.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell often touts the city's commitment that police will never help federal anti-immigration efforts, but it's easy to see how the federal government can outplay local "sanctuary city" laws if a city collaborates with the Trump Administration on things like "drug enforcement."

This was Harrell's opening argument when he ran for mayor—"I will eliminate encampments so my comfortably housed supporters won't have to see them"—and it's his closing argument now as he seeks a second term. As another testimonial puts it, he "cleaned up the mess" with four years of sweeps.

Like everything in US culture that was visible but somewhat implicit, this has been blown out & made theatrically, inescapably obvious in the era of Trump.
