it's easy in downriver but that second /l/ makes it so much harder...

(also evident cognate of Lushootseed sɬəɬadəyʔ, with common correspondences between i~əy and l~n~d)

Looks like the Zoroastrian system (pre-Greek -> they later switched to 4) was 7 elements: sky, water, earth, plants, cattle, mankind, and flame. Sky later became metal and sometimes the system separates fire (so 6)

The reason I'm looking for systems outside of Afro-Eurasia is because those would be more solid evidence of such 4-element systems developing independently rather than being influenced over long distances

(S = substances, T = transformations)

Interestingly all of the 4-element systems consist of fire, earth, water, and air as root elements. Confused by this because I don't really get by what standard fire and air are as fundamental as S components as the tangible earth and water

the butcher’s job is to pronounce people’s names as wrongly as conceivably possible (opposite version of that starbucks barista bit)

id say its pyro, aether at least in the hindu-buddhist sense is specifically empty space (so aetheronaut is an appropriate thing to call astronaut)

it just occurred to me that the fact that a lot of commercial machines (like power tools or roombas) are metal on the inside but the outer shell is plastic, so that’s another way oil delineates metal

yeah ayurvedic elements are still material at their core hence the lack of directionality
there are some internal orders to them (i particularly like the sensory one) but it’s linear too
which sets of elements are air and space here?

i imagine the forward cycles to be the hindu create/maintain/destroy but beyond that ??

i keep wondering what would happen if there were seven elements, because then you get three continuous forward cycles and their three reverse counterparts, but it’s weirdly difficult to pick a set of elements that works

that makes sense; when i was messing with the system a few weeks ago i wasn’t quite sure about how that interaction worked

what about oil manifests/shapes/reveals water? im also a bit confused by that one

this is maybe like my favorite thing ever omg

i am curious a bit about how the oil and metal interaction works / why is it categorized the way that it is
