It's weird when someone with a degenerative disease passes. At least for me, I'd already said goodbye a thousand times, every time I noticed some other aspect of her personality was gone. By the end, she wasn't really mom anymore. The end wasn't shocking, it was just over.

Fuckin insidious diseases. Alzheimers took my mom in 2021. Stepmom had a different form of dementia, her funeral is tomorrow.

This need for a legible social order expresses itself in what social psychologists call "system justification." We have a propensity to justify & defend the social order we are born into-- *even if we are at the bottom of that order* --because a system that makes sense is preferable to uncertainty.

It feels like, to me, the writer/editor has a very reactionary centrist world view coupled with a poor understanding of the local population.
