Last weekend I offered a dim sum sampler class at HGS Home Chef in Hillsdale NY. We had a blast trying to fold the shrimp dumplings. Most came out well but a few were less successful. Spring rolls came out beautiful.

This savory and slightly sweet winter soup is perfect for a cold winter night. Go out and get some Asian pears and your favorite mushrooms to make this soup!

Just before Christmas, we went to this new place by Simpson Wong on the Upper West Side. @kancil.nyc is a modern interpretation of food from Malaysia with some #hakkacuisine influence. What a great combination it is. Go try it out!

Bak Kut Teh, translated to “pork rib tea,” is a soup made with pork ribs, lots of garlic, white pepper and star anise in a soy sauce broth. Although medicinal herbs are often added, I like this simpler version with just the basic ingredients.

I’m cooking again after dealing with some health issues. We had some friends over for Sunday brunch over the Memorial Day weekend. Gochujang chicken wings, Salade Niçoise, and minted fruit salad. Our friend Rachel made a coconut pecan cake for dessert. Yum!

Corning Museum of Glass has been in our bucket list for a long time. We finally get to visit this weekend while visiting in the Fingers Lake Region for the eclipse. What a spectacular museum.

Austrian food was perfect as the cuisine to highlight the wonderful cold weather wines like riesling and gewurztraminer of the Fingers Lake region. And Dano’s Heuriger did not disappoint.

Tonight’s cooking class was Chinese Soups and Stews. We made Red Cook Pork and Chicken Soup with Asian Pear. Since stew and soup making takes a long time to make, we indulged in a wonton appetizer at the start of the class.
