D&D Hot Take: Unpredictability should be baked in to the Sorcerer class, not limited to Wild Magic (though Wild Magic should take whatever's there and dial it up to 11).

One of my players is out this week, so we're doing a bit of a filler/travel session. They're entering the Underdark for the first time, and will hopefully end up having just arrived at a Drow city a week or so away on foot.
Any fun ideas? The Underdark-ier the better!

I feel like when people are shocked to hear how much time a GM spends prepping, they assume that time is being efficiently used.
The party's heading into a dungeon tomorrow? Better spend three hours coming up with obscure lore for an unrelated kingdom 1,000 miles away!

We need more magic items with the potential for disastrous consequences. One of my players loaned their Horn of Blasting (which they didn't know could explode) to a friendly townsperson that they'd convinced to act as a distraction.
It was definitely distracting.

DM Tip: If you're worried that a fight you're planning is too hard/easy, play it out ahead of time.
This is usually overkill and gets inaccurate with more players, but it's especially helpful if you're running one-on-one D&D or if one of your players has challenged some NPC to a duel.

I'll go first: one of my players just learned about the "Goat Men of Gorn," who live high in the mountains and worship a future-seeing eldritch horror that looks like a floating goat's eye (the player's patron).
