Mind, they are only counting the NCB from when I got my full licence, but this is so much better that I am not going to risk questioning that or shopping around. In hindsight buying a bike in December was an awful idea though, with MOT, tax, and insurance all due a month before Christmas.

On the other side, it did not yet meet the standard of an MOT advisory, and plenty of tread away from the centre line, so maybe if I just go around in circles it will be fine.

A good thing about the power cut was I was up early enough to be able to go to the chemists first thing. So I also got to see the cable hole. I guess that café will not be open today as it now has no pavement in front of it. I could not take a photo of that, so here is a windy High Road pavement.

Everything seems fine except a lamp, which I think is plugged into a remote control plug that I no longer use as it has a remote control bulb. So I need to find that remote control. I also have a remote control switch on my bed which is why I could not turn off the remote control lamp that woke me.

Officially power was restored 5:13am, really it was 1:40-ish when my body clock woke me up because I had a bright lamp in my face. I just turned over and went back to sleep until it finally woke me again. I received no further text messages, so the priority service seems a waste of time.

The estimated restoration of power is now 4–5am as the problem is an underground cable fault, hence the surveying the pavement earlier. So I guess it is bed time and I can be awakened later to check everything by the sound of everything turning on at once or exploding.

After over an hour of waiting, the fire engines have given up and just left. Meanwhile two emergency electricians walked the street surverying the pavement a while back. And my desk fan, which is powered by a USB adapter, has randomly beeped, so some electricity must be trying to sneak through.

Without doorbells we have reverted to the middle ages where traders must stand in the street and call out "Hello! Pizza! Dominoes! Hello?"

On a whim I added one of the USB "old fashioned LED filament light bulbs" to an order of more exciting things, and it arrived last week. And I am so glad I did as it illuminates do perfectly compared to a torch.

The estimate to restore power is midnight to 1am. I may as well go to bed now as you can only watch parked fire engines for so long. Though a weather warning for rain comes into effect at midnight, so maybe the coast guard will turn up too?

Living in a central location means I cannot take photos without giving away where I live, but the heavy rain on the road looks lovely illuminated by the fire engine headlamps. No activity from them, I would guess the power cut triggered an alarm that called them out.

I got the priority text message! About 25 minutes after the power went out, which is reasonable, though it is about ten minutes after I already looked it up on the website. Which is stating that "A fault has occurred on a piece of our electrical equipment which controls the power to your home."

And now two fire engines have parked on the street! I cannot see or smell a fire, though it is raining and the street lights are out. But maybe is a dim and waterproof fire?
